First Semester of Grades

4 01 2010

Well I got my grades. I’ve decided to publish them here to my blog. How daring.

New Testament Survey     A-

English                           B

Basic Math (Don’t judge)  A

Music Theory                  A

Private Piano                   B-

Speech                          B

Orchestra                       A-

I made the Dean’s List, which is only a B average or higher. At midterms they posted the Dean’s List and there was less than one thousand names on the list. Not sure on the exact number but still when a college has 4,o00 students more should be getting grades that are at least a B average….well that’s all for now.

College Life

23 12 2009

College was an amazing experience. I can’t believe how much I learned. It was a great experience. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

I had three roommates. I was only supposed to have two but the residence manager asked one to move to a different room to become a prayer leader. We quickly got a new roommate.

The music program was intense! Of course I had never been in a college music program but it was a great experience. I also ended up changing my major from Church Music Performance to Music Education. A big change but one that I figured would happen. I could handle the performance major if I really wanted to but I’ve seen how intense it is. It’s not that’s that much harder than the education major it’s the whole idea of being able to perform. I’m just not one to be on stage all the time like that. Also education is a more practical major.

The food was ok. At first it was bad but you just have to get used to it first. 🙂 It also got better as the semester went on. This just wasn’t my perception wasn’t just mine it was everyone’s even my junior roommate’s.

I made so many great friends there. I can’t believe it. Met people from all over the place, with all kinds of personalities, and from all walks of life. It was great. I can’t believe how much I miss them all and can’t wait to see them again. I think next semester will be even better than this last semester. 🙂

College Life?!

12 01 2009

I wonder if I’ll have a life at college? Let’s see. Now I haven’t done any of these calculations in advance so let’s see what’s up.

Total hours in a week: 168 hours

Total hours minus Sunday: 144 hours (This is due to church and stuff like that)

Total sleep time minus Sunday: 42 hours

Total hours of eating minus Sunday: 18 hours

Hours of Chapel during the week: 5 hours

Hours of piano practice: 15 -25 (We’ll assume 20 because it’s in between)

Hours of work a week: 15 -20 hours

Hours of classes: 18 hours (I don’t know if that’s how many hours I spend in class but that’s how many credit hours I have) (I also have a student success seminar with 0 credit hours but I do have to attend it)

Total hours used: 123 hours
Hours left: 21 hours

You may think that that’s plenty of time but I have an Ensemble requirement which will require time…I’m not sure how much.  There is also the issue of homework and extra studying. I can’t image having too much extra free time. Hopefully I’ll have some time to me in between everything else. (That also doesn’t include other activities that one is required to attend. The occasional senior recitals and sports events and other stuff like that.)

Studying Music

22 12 2008

I have found that studying my music is hard. I’m basically preparing for college. I’ve found it stressful…especially trying to get my level up to an acceptable. Here’s a list of the classes I have to take for my first semester.

BI 101 New Testament Survey 2
CL 101 Student Success Seminar 0
EN 101 English Grammar and Composition 3
MU 101 Freshman Music Theory 4
PE PE Activity Elective 1
PI 121 Piano Lesson 1
SP 101 Fundamentals of Speech 3
ST 201 Strings Instruction I 1
Ensemble 1
Total Hours 16

Since I have already learned 2 out of the 4 stringed instruments they teach, I want to substitute it with Voice classes…which I think is a group class…I need it. Badly! Joking…I can sing ok…but not good. 😦
Oh well…college here I come!
