Music Music Music

29 01 2009

Well let’s see, isn’t that how I start most of my blog posts. Let’s start with what I’m working on. My piano teacher is giving me a couple week break, thankfully.

Classical Pieces:

Moonlight Sonata, all movements

Mozart, Turkish March (Still trying to finish that)

Hymns:

At the Cross, arranged in the key of C# minor

Scales: All the scales listed are for the Natural and Harmonic

F# Minor

C# Minor

G# Minor/Ab Minor

B Minor

Bb Minor/A# Minor

Eb Minor
WOW! Busy!

I recieved the primamusic.com order. Perfect! I guess my piano teacher will have to approve. We have no choice now since I can’t return it without it costing to much. It looks ok but slightly different the version my piano teacher has and even the one I had.

The cd came today as well! Beautiful. Julia Fischer interpreted Bach’s concertos really really well. I have just started listening to it not to far into it but I love it.

I hope that you all enjoy reading my blog and that you would keep reading. Please post comments and let me know how I’m doing.

Need Sheet Music? I Know of a Website!

24 01 2009

My piano teacher told me of a website.

www.primamusic.com

The sales are great! If you become a member, which is free to become,  you automatically get a 10% discount! WOW! If you buy $300 worth of stuff, which is a lot but if it’s the only place you buy music and you’re serious about music it’s not bad, the discount increases; up to 25%. Now I haven’t spent lots of time on the site but right now it seem reasonable. I just bought Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. All three movements for only $7.15, of course I wanted to pay extra for faster shipping and there’s a handling fee on anything less than $20 but other than that it was worth it. (Hopefully it’s the right one, I couldn’t see it so I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure it’s the right one.) It’s even Kalmus method. I’m not sure what the normal cost is but it’s a good method. My piano teacher was telling me that it’s one used to teach in colleges and stuff like that. A good reliable one, I guess. Hopefully you can go there and get a good experience. I’ll be blogging about it when I get the music.

LUCKY!

21 01 2009

I did it! I finally won! On the site violinist.com, whenever the Laurie Niles interviews a violinist, she always gets some cds to give away. I have tried about 10 previous times(two cds) to win but I finally won one! A Julia Fischer cd, the cd is of Bach’s Concertos. I’m so excited to get this. I can’t wait until it comes in the mail. I know it’s coming from California, I just don’t know when she’ll be sending it out. YAY! I’m so excited. I’ll tell you all how the cd turns out. :D

Wondering

20 01 2009

With a new president being sworn in I have a thought. Why do people bash the president. Although Bush didn’t do everything perfect, and obviously no one is perfect. I commend him for the way he reacted in many of the situations. I just think that in that situation I would have absolutely no clue what I would do, except for maybe have a nervous break down. What are your thoughts? I have no shared my brief thoughts. :-)

New Hairstyle!

19 01 2009

Well it’s finally happened. I finally got a new hairstyle. I don’t know if you can call it style. But it definitely is different. Here’s before and after pictures.
Piano Duet
This is my old hairstyle. I found out that I was quite attached to it.

New hairstyle. Quite different. I’m amazed how attached I was to my hair.

The change is really for when I go to college. Because it’s a Christian college, and it’s quite conservative; hair length matters. I have found out that hair can’t be more than an inch on top. Although I did find out that there are ways around it, I would feel bad doing that. The hair on the sides can’t touch the ears or the collar. That’s the biggest thing. Well now you all know.

American Idol Season 8

13 01 2009

Season 8 started off with a bang. I loved it. The very last audition was a blind guy. I hope he makes it far…he was really interesting. I can’t wait. Hopefully this season will be good. Although I must admit that the show is starting to get a little dramatic this season is starting out pretty good. I didn’t like some of the people that they put through maybe they’ll grow on me. Last season I sat there and said: “I don’t like David Archuleta. He can sing but I just don’t like him.” By the end of the season I loved his voice and thought I wish I had that voice. I’m so jealous.
I know that I can’t sing. That’s ok. I can play piano. I’m satisfied.

College Life?!

12 01 2009

I wonder if I’ll have a life at college? Let’s see. Now I haven’t done any of these calculations in advance so let’s see what’s up.

Total hours in a week: 168 hours

Total hours minus Sunday: 144 hours (This is due to church and stuff like that)

Total sleep time minus Sunday: 42 hours

Total hours of eating minus Sunday: 18 hours

Hours of Chapel during the week: 5 hours

Hours of piano practice: 15 -25 (We’ll assume 20 because it’s in between)

Hours of work a week: 15 -20 hours

Hours of classes: 18 hours (I don’t know if that’s how many hours I spend in class but that’s how many credit hours I have) (I also have a student success seminar with 0 credit hours but I do have to attend it)

Total hours used: 123 hours
Hours left: 21 hours

You may think that that’s plenty of time but I have an Ensemble requirement which will require time…I’m not sure how much.  There is also the issue of homework and extra studying. I can’t image having too much extra free time. Hopefully I’ll have some time to me in between everything else. (That also doesn’t include other activities that one is required to attend. The occasional senior recitals and sports events and other stuff like that.)

Television Series

10 01 2009

Sadness fills my heart today. About 30 minutes ago I finished watching Stargate Atlantis’ final episode, ever. I actually really liked this series compared to the first one. Although I liked the first one the second one was better. Of course I must not be sad for much longer. Stargate Universe should start up this summer, hopefully.
Although on a different note American Idol starts up Tuesday. I used to hate this show thinking it was stupid, I never actually saw it until last season. Last season was actually amazing. I heard lots of bad singers…but I heard lots of good ones. I have heard this season will be very different, I’m interested to see what it’ll be like. I know that lots of Christians disapprove of the show and I even don’t really like the kind of music that they sing but it’s quite interesting. Especially listening to people who can’t sing but insist that they can. Then when they audition they’re in tears because they weren’t picked. Honestly if anyone thinks about it only like one hundred fifty are picked, out of thousands if not tens of thousands.
I will be blogging about American Idol as it progress and hopefully making predictions and posting my opinions on each singer. Especially as it gets into the Top 36 then to the Top 12. Hopefully you will enjoy reading my opinions in the following weeks.

Piano Lessons

10 01 2009

Sorry that I haven’t written in a couple days. The lessons went well. My piano teacher said she could tell I was practicing, which to me is a great thing. We are starting to finish up the small details of Mozart’s Turkish March. Hallelujah! With Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata Movement 1, we’re just fixing my slight tempos and dynamics problem. We just started the second movement and I’m learning that it’s WAY harder than it looks. Also I have permission to start looking at the third movement and trying it if I like. I feel very intimidated by the third movement. I don’t know if I can ever learn it. I’m sure eventually but right now it feels like I can’t or ever will be able to. Hopefully I’ll be ready for college. It’s only eight months away.
